Discover Your Authentic Creative Voice

Are you a beginning creative nonfiction writer, or already halfway into your book-length memoir? Are you looking for a community of intelligent, compassionate readers and an experienced teacher to guide you in a safe and supportive environment?

I'm glad you've found your way here.

Words Etcetera is the company I set up in 2004 to work with writers just like you. Since then, I've taught more than 400 creative nonfiction writers how to hone their craft.

I believe writing workshops are sacred spaces where a participant's emotional security is equally as important as the discussion of his or her work. I also believe that writing should be fun. Whether you're a beginning writer or an experienced author, I'm committed to helping you find your distinctive voice and developing your unique talent.

My private workshops are held periodically throughout the year on the west side of Los Angeles and, starting this year, in Iowa City. I also teach week-long classes at the Iowa Summer Writing Festival every July and am thrilled to be teaching this February in Guatemala with authors Joyce Maynard and Ann Hood. (For more information, please check out the workshop pages above.)
